01Refurbish or build new?
If the frames are solid and the layout works, refurbishing existing booths and banquettes is often the quickest way to lift a room: new foam, new covers and the seating looks new again. Building new makes sense when the layout is changing, the frames have failed, or you want seating that fits an awkward space exactly.
02Fabrics for commercial seating
Commercial seating is sat on all day, so it needs a much higher wear rating than furniture at home. Faux leathers and contract-grade vinyls are popular because they wipe clean between customers, while heavy-duty woven fabrics give a warmer feel.
Seating for pubs, restaurants and other public spaces is normally specified to the non-domestic fire standard, BS 7176, so tell us where the seating is going and how it will be used.
03Types of seating
| Type | Where it works |
|---|
| Booths | Enclosed seating for tables of two to six, popular in restaurants and cafes |
|---|
| Banquettes | Long runs of fixed seating along a wall, making the most of floor space |
|---|
| Benches | Simple fixed or freestanding seating for bars and casual dining |
