01When bespoke makes sense
- A space nothing off the shelf will fit, such as an alcove or a bay window
- A piece to match one you already own
- Built-in seating for a kitchen, hallway or reading corner
- Booths and fixed seating for a business
- A shape or size simply not made any more
02How a bespoke piece comes together
| Stage | What happens |
|---|
| The brief | What it is for, where it goes and how it will be used |
|---|
| Measurements | The space it has to fit, and the size it needs to be to sit in comfortably |
|---|
| Design | Shape, arms, back, legs and details agreed before anything is made |
|---|
| Frame and upholstery | The frame is built, then sprung, filled and covered |
|---|
03Bring what you have
A photo from a magazine, a sketch on the back of an envelope, or just the measurements of the space is plenty to start with. The more you can say about how it will be used, the better the result.
