01What van seating has to cope with
Campervan seats are sat on, slept on, eaten on and packed around, often by people coming straight in from the beach or the hills. They also sit in a space that heats up and cools down far more than a living room.
That makes the choice of fabric and foam more important than in a house. Wipe-clean vinyls and faux leathers, tough woven fabrics and outdoor-grade materials are all common choices.
02Seats that become a bed
If the seating folds into a bed, the cushions need to work both ways: firm enough to sit on upright, comfortable enough to sleep on, and cut so the pieces meet without gaps. That is why the layout and the way each seat moves matter as much as the measurements.
03Things to decide
- Fabric or vinyl, and how easy it needs to be to clean
- How firm the seats should be, especially if you sleep on them
- Whether cushions need to be removable for storage underneath
- Piping, contrast stitching or a plain finish
- Matching curtains, side panels or scatter cushions
